We took a 1970’s kitchen with fluorescent lighting and the adjacent vaulted family room and turned them into one nice entertaining space. The original kitchen was a small, cramped space with a pass through window into the adjacent family room. We removed the wall between the two spaces and the 1970’s wood paneling in the family room and extended the vaulted ceiling treatment into the enlarged kitchen. To provide a little extra space, we also moved the wall separating the kitchen from the mud room back about a foot to allow room for the island.
The family room ceiling was redone to allow for recessed lighting and some additional insulation, which was lacking in the old ceiling. New windows looking toward the new rear deck and the existing pool complete the space. The old fireplace was two-sided, with the family room side covered over to provide a location for a flat screen tv and hidden audio equipment.Share post
